Club

History

The Original Downton Engineering Works had  it's own Social Club back in the day , known as DEWS

( Downton Engineering Works Social - Club  )  The world renowned business finally closed it's doors in 1976 & ex employees scattered far & wide so it was a massive feat to get as many as possible back together in one place for the initial reunion in 2006  from there the Dews club gained momentum &

the club was reformed re-igniting interest from some of the original members by holding the Downton Classic Show in 2008 this was well received , as the Mini was such a large part of Downton history in 2009 being the 50th Anniversary of the Mini it was decided to hold a Mini only track day event at Gurston Hillclimb which also included Demonstration Runs & Charity Rides up the Hill .

From then the club has got stronger and stronger with many enthusiastic members who have the drive and ambition to keep the name of the genuine “ DOWNTON “ alive, as many of our members not only worked at Downton, but others have original cars that were either owned by Downton, or were worked on at Downton.

2017 saw the Club name change to Downton Motor Club

As well as our annual Downton Classic Vehicle show each year for which we always need helpers in advance & on the day ,following the Saturday show we hold our Sunday Car Run so making it a really good family weekend, helping to  raise funds for local good causes

We also run a Speed Championship to suit all levels. of cars & competitors very friendly & supportive to other competitors . New members are always made Welcome You don't even need to own a vehicle , just being enthusiastic is enough .
